Peaceful massage room at Siam Ivory Spa San Antonio

What to Expect During Your First Massage at Siam Ivory

If this is your first time booking a massage in San Antonio — or your first time at Siam Ivory specifically — it's completely normal to feel a little unsure of what to expect. The good news: there's nothing to worry about. We've designed every part of the experience to feel calm, welcoming, and completely at your pace. Here's exactly what will happen from the moment you arrive.

Before You Arrive

We recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes before your appointment. This gives you time to check in, fill out a short intake form, and let your body begin to slow down before your session starts. If you're coming from work or traffic — San Antonio rush hour is real — that few minutes of quiet can make a noticeable difference in how quickly you relax once you're on the table.

Wear comfortable clothing. For Thai massage, you'll stay clothed throughout, so loose pants and a t-shirt work perfectly. For oil massage services, you'll undress to your comfort level and be fully draped with a sheet at all times.

The Consultation

Every session at Siam Ivory begins with a brief conversation between you and your therapist. This is your chance to share what's going on in your body — any areas of tension or pain, recent injuries, how you're feeling that day, and what you'd like to get out of the session.

There are no wrong answers. If you just want to relax and zone out, say that. If your lower back has been tight for weeks and you want focused work there, say that too. Our therapists use this information to tailor everything — pressure, focus areas, technique — specifically to you.

During Your Session

Once your session begins, your only job is to breathe and let go. You don't need to make small talk, help the therapist move your body, or do anything at all. If at any point the pressure feels too much or not enough, simply say so. Our therapists genuinely welcome this feedback — it helps them give you the best possible session.

Many first-time guests at our San Antonio spa are surprised by how quickly they fall into a deeply relaxed state. Some even fall asleep, which is perfectly fine and actually a sign the nervous system has fully let go.

After Your Session

You'll be given a few minutes to rest quietly before getting up. Take your time — sitting up too quickly after a massage can cause light-headedness. Your therapist will step out to give you privacy.

Drink water after your session. Massage increases circulation and can release metabolic waste from the muscles, and hydration helps your body process this. Most guests in San Antonio feel deeply relaxed for the rest of the day, and many notice that they sleep unusually well that night.

A Few Things to Know

You may feel mild soreness the next day, especially after a deep tissue or Thai massage session. This is normal and typically passes within 24 to 48 hours. It means the work reached into areas that needed attention.

You don't need to tip, but it's always appreciated. Our therapists at Siam Ivory are licensed professionals who take their craft seriously — and a gratuity is a meaningful way to acknowledge great work.
